Shopkeepers on the Eilat boardwalk cleared out of the northern end of the city’s famous boardwalk on Tuesday, nine months after the Supreme Court ordered the evacuation temporarily delayed.
Long a fixture of the city, the shopkeepers have been the subject of a decade-long effort to remove them from the boardwalk, as the state has ruled that they do not have legal permission to operate at the site.
In 2010, a court ruled that the booths must be closed within six months, a decision the owners appealed to the Supreme Court.
On Tuesday, the shopkeepers agreed to leave voluntarily after their final appeal failed.
