Iran accuses foreigners targeting elections

Iran's supreme leader accused foreigners of trying to discredit Iran's upcoming presidential elections. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told a crowd Thursday that over the past months, "foreign radio broadcasts" have been criticizing the elections in order to instill "pessimism" in the people. He added that these broadcasts were aimed at lowering the turnout for the election and decreasing support for the system. He did not specify where the broadcasts were from. Hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is facing three challengers in the June 12 contest.
