A prisoner died in his Rimonim Prison cell in Even Yehuda on Sunday, the Prisons Service said.

The prisoner, 25, was detained from 2019 until the end of his legal proceedings on suspicion of rape and committing sexual offenses against three women.

He was a former officer in the IDF Paratroopers Brigade and once received a presidential award for his service from president Reuven Rivlin.

Last week, the prisoner agreed to a plea bargain in which he would admit to the rape and sexual assault of two women, KAN News reported.

Rescue workers attempted to revive him after prison guards found him unconscious in his cell. An investigation has begun into the cause of his death, the Prisons Service said.
