Jerusalem Biblical Zoo gets 2 lionesses

Two Asiatic lionesses from Germany and the Czech Republic have joined the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo’s animal kingdom, the zoo announced Thursday.  According to a statement, the female additions include a 13-year-old from Prague, and a one-and-a-half-year-old from Magdeburg. Both will live with Ziv, a male Asiatic lion imported from Sweden earlier in the year.

The lionesses come after Lidar, a 16-year-old Asiatic lion, was euthanized last year upon becoming incapacitated by chronic pain and illness. “They are both acclimating behind the scenes and will soon slowly get used to their new home and come outside into their courtyard,” the Jerusalem Zoo said on its Facebook page.
