Lawyer arrested for theft named

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Sunday cleared for publication the name of attorney Yaakov Fink, in custody for bilking millions of shekels from his clients over several years. The court ordered Fink kept in custody until October 19. Fink, a veteran Jerusalem attorney specializing mainly in real estate law, turned himself in to fraud investigators in the capital two weeks ago, after reaching a deal with prosecutors where he is to serve five-years’ incarceration and pay back his victims.
It is estimated that he stole some NIS 14 million from his clients. The prosecution maintains the right to cancel the deal if it emerges that he took more than that sum. The court ordered the Prisons Service to take measures to avoid the possibility that Fink is imprisoned in a facility where any of his victims are located.
The profile of his namesake law firm says that over the years they have handled the legal affairs for thousands of apartment owners in Jerusalem, mainly in tax disputes with the city of Jerusalem. In addition, they represented the Mekorot national water company, the Israel Postal Company, the Israel Electric Corporation and the Jewish National Fund.
