PM agrees to appear at Knesset even without 40 signatures

Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday agreed on special arrangements to accommodate the large coalition formed by the prime minister last month, when he brought Kadima into the government.
Among the arrangements agreed upon by the two, was a pledge by Netanyahu to appear before the Knesset three times in the coming two sessions, even without the 40 signatures that would normally obligated him to do so. The enlarged coalition reduced the opposition to 26 members, far below the threshold needed to force a prime ministerial appearance. The prime minister refused a second demand to give the opposition the chairmanship of the Knesset Economics Committee but said he would consider giving them another statutory committee if opposition MKs are willing to give up the chairmanship of a smaller committee.
