Police chief: 1,600 new officers to be recruited for 2011

The police will recruit 1,600 new officers for the year 2011, 600 more than last year, Police Inspector-General David Cohen said on Wednesday.
"Fragile events are developing in the Middle East," Cohen said as he toured the Ashdod police station, referring to the anti-government uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.
"In light of this, Israel Police needs to be alert to any possible scenario that may develop in the country."
