Rabbi Eliyahu undergoes abdominal surgery after fainting at home

Former Sephardi chief rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu was rushed to Jerusalem's Sha'arei Zedek Medical Center after fainting at home on Monday and underwent urgent abdominal surgery on Tuesday afternoon. Eliyahu, who spent nearly a year at the hospital until a few months ago after suffering a stroke and heart attack and clinical death, had recovered well enough to resume giving some rabbinical lectures. He is considered the leading spiritual leader of the settler movement. After the octogenarian rabbi fainted in his Jerusalem home, MDA paramedics treated him and took him to Sha'arei Zedek in stable condition. But he worsened and was diagnosed with an abdominal problem that required surgical intervention.
