State attorney pledges to back IDF commanders in lawsuits

The State Attorney's Office sent a letter of support to senior commanders in the West Bank on Sunday, pledging full backing for army officers who are taken to court over IDF actions. "The state will stand behind any public servant who is threatened with false lawsuits," attorney Dan Eldad wrote on behalf of State Attorney Moshe Lador. The letter was sent to OC Judea and Samaria Division Brig.-Gen. Noam Tibon and the head of the Civil Administration in the West Bank, Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai. Lador chose to send the letter in light of a recent trend of lawsuits against IDF officers by both right-wing and left-wing elements who, Eldad asserted, hoped to deter soldiers from carrying out their duties in the territories with the threat of legal retribution.
