Syrian forces arrest 30 in Damascus protest

BEIRUT - Syrian security forces arrested at least 30 people, including an actress and a writer, during a pro-democracy protest in Damascus on Wednesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
"Syrian intellectuals organized this demonstration to call for an end to the security crackdown and the release of detainees," said Rami Abdelrahman, head of the Observatory.
"They were gathering in Midan in the center of the city when the security forces arrived and arrested at least 30 of them." The protesters were dispersed, he said.
