Two Foreign Ministry workers arrested on suspicion of embezzlement

Two Foreign Ministry employees, including a department manager, were arrested Monday morning on suspicion of embezzling hundreds of thousands of shekels in ministry funds in order to buy themselves goods and services.
According to police, the two men are suspected of theft, theft by a public employee, fraud, breach of trust, forging documents, and other charges. The men are suspected of falsifying documents in order to charge the purchases to the ministry.
The two men were arrested Monday following a months-long undercover investigation, police added.
The Foreign Ministry said it had opened an internal investigation a few months ago after receiving employee complaints.
The ministry's General Inspector, in charge of internal affairs, investigated the complaints and collected material. The ministry then decided to transfer its findings to the police for further investigation. It is cooperating fully with the police investigation.
