The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Sunday issued a restraining order against Palestinian officials Hatem Abdel Kader of Fatah and Kamal Khatib of the Islamic Movement, who allegedly participated in the Temple Mount riots which occurred throughout the day. Both men will be banished from the Old City area for a period of 15 days. Kader, formerly the Palestinian Authority's minister for Jerusalem affairs, was arrested overnight Saturday on suspicion of having issued the call to "come and defend" the Temple Mount, inciting disturbances in the Old City. On Sunday morning, about 150 rioters hurled rocks and bottles at security forces in the old city after police announced the Temple Mount compound would be temporarily shut down. A border policeman was lightly wounded in the clashes. Kader denied the allegations against him, stating that he had not planned to harm policemen, but only to carry out the Muslim obligation to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque. Khatib, a top official from the Islamic Movement's northern branch, was arrested Sunday in Wadi Joz on suspicion of fanning the riots.
