Well-known rabbi arrested, suspicted of involvement with Domrani's organization

Following the arrest of southern mob kingpin Shalom Domrani and six of his men, police arrested a well known rabbi from southern Israel on Sunday on the suspicion he was involved in extortion done by Domrani's organization in an alleged attempt to influence the municipal elections in Netivot, Israel Radio reported.

The rabbi, whose court was in a feud with another over support for different candidates for mayor of Netivot, was arrested a short while before he was due to board a plane to China.

Police is investigating Domarni's motive to try to skew the election's results.
