Yacimovich: PM's budget cuts will only widen gaps

Labor Party leader Shelly Yacimovich on Sunday called on Knesset ministers to fight pressure from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and vote against his proposed budget cuts.

"The budget cut will inflict a mortal blow on the collapsing health care and education systems and on internal security, and will hurt the weakest [sectors of society]," she said. "Because it is a cut at the budget's foundations, it will be a permanent cut, and will widen gaps within society."

Yacimovich called Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's proposal that free early education only be provided by the government in cases where the parents served in the army "populist, stupid and damaging to the state because it will prevent the poorest [Israelis] from entering the workforce and they will continue to receive funding from the government."
