AN INTERNATIONAL three-day youth congress will open at Yad Vashem at 8.30 a.m., with the participation of young people from more than 60 countries and five continents. Participants aged 16-20 will include Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists. They will join in shaping future Holocaust remembrance and its importance to coming generations. The Congress, under the patronage of UNESCO, will be devoted to the study of the Holocaust and discussions of its universal significance.

TO MARK the fifth anniversary of the flight and tragic ending of the Columbia space shuttle, whose crew included Israel's pioneer astronaut Ilan Roman, the Department of Geophysics and Planetary Sciences at Tel Aviv University will host a conference with the participation of NASA and other space experts. The conference will be held in the Lev Hall of the Physics Building on the TAU campus from 8.45 a.m.
THE ISRAEL Association of Organizational Development (IPPA), will mark its 20th anniversary with a two-day conference at Herzliya's Sharon Hotel. Among the subjects to be discussed will be the reorganization of the Israel Police and the process of attitudinal change from violence to tolerance and patience.

MANY CONFERENCES this year will reflect Israel's 60th anniversary, but few will be as meaningful as the AACI Seniors Conference at Netanya's Blue Bay Hotel. Several of the participants were members of Machal, the Hebrew acronym for Mitnadvei Hutz L'Aretz (foreign volunteers) in the War of Independence, and either remained in Israel after the war or returned some years later to make their homes in Israel. Veterans of the War of Independence and later conflicts will share their memories. In addition to veterans of American and Canadian background, there will also be Machalniks of South African background among the speakers.

TO MARK the 50th anniversary of the passing of writer, editor and journalist Ben-Zion Katz, the Jabotinsky Institute will at 7 p.m. host a symposium at Tel Aviv's Beit Sokolov, 4 Kaplan Street. Several academics will discuss issues that were pertinent to Katz. Topics will include the sensationalism of truth, a Jewish journalist in Tsarist Russia, Yiddish journalism and the Emil Zola of the 1930s.
