The Defense Ministry has signed purchase orders with Elbit Systems for a supply of advanced air-to-ground munitions in a deal worth approximately NIS 900 million, Elbit and the Defense Ministry announced on Monday.

Air-to-ground munitions are missiles designed to be launched from military aircraft, such as combat helicopters, toward targets on either land or sea.

Though the munitions being purchased are “newly developed,” according to Elbit, their portfolio boasts a large range of other air-to-ground systems and tools, including supersonic missiles, rockets, and general-purpose penetration bombs.

These contracts are part of the Defense Ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand domestic production of military assets to ensure full, ongoing support of any IDF needs in the current war and in any future campaigns that may arise.

“We must look ahead, increase production rates, and accelerate the development of the next generations of combat systems to secure the IDF’s qualitative and strategic edge in the region,” Defense Ministry Director-General Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amir Baram said.

“We continue supporting the Israeli Defense Ministry with advanced solutions that enhance the operational readiness of the Israel Defense Forces,” stated Bezhalel Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems.

“These new contracts underscore our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technologies that meet the evolving needs of Israel’s defense forces.”

Previous contracts with Elbit

Back in May, the Defense Ministry announced a $55 million contract with Elbit to procure advanced protection systems for Israel Air Force combat helicopters, including systems for identifying and neutralizing threats, as well as deflecting guided missiles.
