American Airlines announced on Friday that it will resume its New York to Tel Aviv route in March, with the possibility of adding a new route from Israel to Los Angeles, according to media reports on Friday.

American Airlines made the decision after Transportation Minister Miri Regev requested it during a meeting with senior executives from the airline while she was in the United States, N12 reported.

The airline first informed the US Stock Exchange of the resumption of flights to the Jewish state, the report added.

The airline had stopped flights to the country after the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 over two years ago.

Flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on March 28, and return service to New York will begin three days after, according to a report by the Jewish News Syndicate.

Additional airlines to resume flights to and from Tel Aviv

The announcement by the US airline comes after a Globes report on Thursday saying that five other airlines will also resume flights to Israel, which includes British Airways, Iberia, Swiss, Eurowings, and Scandinavian Airlines.

Romania’s AnimaWings and Greek airline Sky Express will begin their services at Ben-Gurion Airport in December, the report added.

Last February, Delta Airlines announced that it would be resuming services in Israel. Before their announcement, the only direct flights between the countries had been operated by El Al since the beginning of the war.
