Germany has filed charges against a Syrian national on allegations of ISIS membership, Germany’s Public Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice stated on Friday.

“The accused is sufficiently suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization,” the Public Prosecutor General stated. “In this context, he is also accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

The Syrian national, identified as Ahmad AA, was initially arrested in January of this year and remains in custody, the Public Prosecutor General noted.

According to the statement, he joined ISIS in 2024.

Ahmad served as ISIS combatant

The Public Prosecutor General noted that he served in the area of Kashkiyya, a Syrian town in the eastern portion of the country, where he served as a patrolman and a combatant.

“Together with other members of the group, he searched the region for members of the Al-Shu'aitat tribe,” the Public Prosecutor General stated. “On one occasion in mid-August 2014, the defendant, as part of an ISIS unit, arrested numerous members of the tribe.

Further, Ahmad’s unit allegedly beat and decapitated two men. The unit later abducted others, killing some of them.
