Canadian Muslim teen's dad charged in her death denied bail

Murdered Canadian Muslim afraid dad would kill her over refusal to wear headscarf

A Pakistani-Canadian teenager whose father is accused of strangling her to death said she was worried her dad would kill her over her refusal to wear the Muslim headscarf and her decision to move out, a friend said Wednesday. Police have declined to name a motive for the killing, and a lawyer for the girl's family said there was "more to the story than just cultural issues." A judge on Wednesday ordered Muhammed Parvez held without bail on murder charges and told him not to communicate with a son who has been charged with obstructing police in connection with 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez's death. Parvez, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, showed little emotion during the brief hearing.
