China, Russia express concern over N. Korea test

China has issued its strongest public statement of concern yet against North Korea over a possible long-range missile launch, while Russia summoned Pyongyang's ambassador in Moscow to express its own alarm. The moves by the North's last two remaining major allies were the strongest pressure yet against the communist regime to not launch a missile, following similar calls by the US and Japan along with other western countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it had warned Ambassador Pak Ui Chun of Russia's opposition to any steps that would affect regional stability. "In particular, the undesirability was stressed of any actions which could negatively affect regional stability and complicate the search for a settlement to the Korean Peninsula's nuclear problem," a ministry statement said.
