China to tighten nuke technology export controls

China said Saturday that its new, stricter export controls on nuclear technology will help prevent terrorists from obtaining nuclear weapons or dangerous radioactive material. China's Cabinet, the State Council, announced its decision Friday to amend regulations on "dual-use" nuclear technology to prevent nuclear terrorism. No details were given. Dual-use technology can be used for either civilian or military purposes. "The government will resolutely oppose the proliferation of mass destructive weapons and the means of their delivery," the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on its Web site Saturday. Under the revised regulations, the Ministry of Commerce will take a greater role in controlling China's nuclear technology exports.
