Fans to pay silent homage at Paris funeral of Marcel Marceau

Fans were expected to pay silent homage Wednesday to Marcel Marceau at the French mime's funeral at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris. The ceremony for Marceau, who died Saturday at the age of 84, was to take place at the eastern Paris cemetery, where a host of other famous performers and artists are buried, including composer Frederic Chopin, writer Oscar Wilde, painter Eugene Delacroix and rocker Jim Morrison. News reports said silence would be a theme of the ceremony and that a cellist would play as well, but further plans were not released ahead of time. A French Jew, Marceau escaped deportation to a Nazi death camp during World War II, unlike his father who died in Auschwitz. Marceau also worked with the French Resistance before taking up the art of mime, which brought him fame around the world.
