Germany charges 5 with membership in leftist Turkish terror group

Four Turks and a German man have been charged with membership in a banned Turkish leftist group and of supporting its terrorist activities, the federal prosecutor's office said Tuesday. Ilhan D., 38, a German citizen of Turkish origin, is accused of being in charge of procuring weapons, munitions, cell phones, identity papers and other items in Germany and neighboring countries for the outlawed DHKP-C group, which seeks to topple the Turkish government and replace it with a Marxist one. The others - Mustafa A., 51, Devrim G., 34, Hasan S., 44, Ahmet Duzgun Y., 45 - are all accused of being tasked with raising funds, including through donations and the selling of organizational propaganda, and arranging couriers to transport money, weapons and explosives into Turkey, prosecutor Frank Wallenta said in a statement.
