A suicide car bomb attack killed six people and wounded dozens of others in the Indian-ruled part of Kashmir on Wednesday, as a new government chief took the reins of the state.
The car bomb exploded Wednesday on the outskirts of Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, killing two policemen, three passers-by and the bomber, and injuring 18 others, police said.
The Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group claimed responsibility in a call to a local news agency. The caller, who identified himself as Abu Qadama, said the blast was a suicide attack.
The car was stopped at a routine police roadblock in Srinagar's Nowgam suburb, and the driver then set off the bomb, said Gopal Sharma, director general of police.
