India has no plan to withdraw its soldiers from a UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday, after an IDF bomb attack killed four United Nations observers in southern Lebanon.
India has 672 soldiers in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL. One Indian soldier has been injured, during an Israeli airstrike on July 21.
"As long as UNIFIL is there, India is not withdrawing," senior Foreign Ministry official K.C. Singh told reporters in New Delhi, adding that there has been no proposal from UNIFIL to withdraw.
A ministry statement said the Indian battalion is safe. But it added that the "freedom of movement of the UNIFIL troops has ... been curtailed," because of its close proximity to the airstrikes.
