Interpol probes whether Mexico office leaked info to drug cartels
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
Interpol announced on Wednesday it planned to dispatch a special investigative team to determine whether any sensitive information was lost after the head of its Mexican office was detained on suspicion of illegal leaks to drug cartels.
A statement from Interpol in France said Mexican federal police official Ricardo Gutierrez Vargas ran the international police agency's National Central Bureau in Mexico, where he had access to a database on criminals and terrorists.
Mexican prosecutors said Vargas was placed under house arrest as part of an investigation of law enforcement officers who allegedly leaked information to drug cartels.
