Malaysia regrets US rejection of Gaza resolution

Malaysia has expressed regret over the rejection by the United States and France of a draft UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip, a news report said Sunday. The US and France had swiftly opposed the draft proposed by Qatar on Thursday, calling it unbalanced in its criticism of Israel. Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said their action showed that the West accorded special treatment to Israel, the Mingguan Malaysia newspaper reported. "(Israel) cannot be touched although it is clear that the country had violated Palestinian territory and threatened the safety of the people there," Syed Hamid was quoted as saying.
