Moderate earthquake shakes Turkey, damage but no wounded reported

A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 shook a province in southeastern Turkey, a seismology center reported on Wednesday. There were no reports of any injuries but the local governor said the quake caused damage to several buildings. The Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory said that the epicenter was in the town of Samat, in Adiyaman province. The quake struck at 5:22 a.m. (0222 GMT) on Wednesday. Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, much of which lies atop the active North Anatolian fault.
