Police and federal officials are investigating whether a fire at an Islamic center was a hate crime, authorities said.
A container with a flammable substance was thrown against a wall at the Al-Mahdi Islamic Center early Friday, agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.
Nashville police Lt. Paul Trickey said damage was minor and there was no one inside the building.
No one has been arrested or claimed responsibility for the fire.
