The remains of a US airman, missing in action since a World War II mission over New Guinea, were returned to his family Tuesday in Cleveland, Ohio.
Tech. Sgt. Richard R. Sargent was one of 10 airmen recovered when wreckage of a World War II-era bomber was found in Morobe Province in New Guinea in 2001, according to the Defense Department's Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office.
A military honor guard carried his flag-draped coffin from a flight to a hearse as police, fire and airport officials stood saluting.
"It's incredible," said nephew Alan Sargent. "He deserved every bit of this."
