Turkish foreign minister visits Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul on Wednesday urged Syrian President Bashar Assad to fully cooperate with the probe into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. "We learned from experience with the events in our region: If problems aren't solved before they become chronic, if there is not some contribution made, they later become intractable," Gul said upon returning from Damascus. "The goal of my visit was to help ensure the decision of the UN Security Council is applied quickly and completely," he said. Gul said the meeting was a success and he had reached an understanding with Assad that he hoped would help resolve problems in the region.
