US invites UN experts to visit Guantanamo Bay

The United States is inviting independent experts from the United Nations to visit detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, almost four years after the United Nations first asked permission to inspect the prison. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday that the Defense Department had decided to let three UN experts "observe operations at the facilities at Guantanamo and ask questions of accompanying command staff and US officials." His statement did not mention prisoners.
