ElBaradei: Turkey can help bring Iran to negotiating table

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said in an interview aired Thursday that Turkey could play a critical role in helping to bring Iran to the negotiating table for talks about its nuclear program.
ElBaradei is to arrive in the Turkish capital Thursday for talks in which Iran, which many experts believe is working to make nuclear weapons, will be high on the agenda.
In an interview before his departure from Vienna, ElBaradei told NTV television that Turkey had an important and unmatched role to play in bringing Iran to the negotiating table and solving the dispute by diplomatic means.
He pointed out that Turkey was a neighbor of Iran and a Muslim country with close historical ties both to Iran and to the West, giving it a better understanding of what both sides wanted from negotiations.
ElBaradei is also expected on this visit to discuss Turkey's plans to build facilities to produce nuclear energy.
