Iranian TV: Heat-seeking air-to-air missile test-fired successfully

Iran's state television says the country has successful test-fired a heat-seeking air-to-air missile. The Sunday report quoted air force chief Gen. Hasan Shahsafi, as saying the missile has a range of 62 miles (100 kilometers). The report did not elaborate. From time to time Iran announces various missile tests to show how self-sufficient its defense industries are. Iran launched an arms development program during its 1980-88 war with Iraq to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and a fighter plane.
