Spanish premier meets Iranian parliament speaker Larijani

The Spanish premier's office says Iran's visiting parliamentary speaker praised the US administration's focus on multilateralism in foreign policy. The office of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said the Spanish leader held a 40-minute meeting with Ali Larijani, and that the two discussed the global financial crisis, the recent fighting in Gaza and the situations in Afghanistan and Iraq. An official in Zapatero's office said Larijani welcomed comments made by US Vice President Joe Biden over the weekend assuring that US President Barack Obama would work with allies to solve global problems. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government rules. Larijani was visiting Madrid on Monday.
