Michael Ben-Ari, the head of Otzma Yehudit, may be facing an investigation after being accused of racist incitement legal sources told Maariv on Monday.
This comes after Ben-Ari was disqualified from running in the upcoming elections on Sunday.
A complaint has already been submitted to the Attorney General.
A senior legal source told Maariv that he believes that more evidence is required to disqualify a candidate from running in the elections than is required for a criminal conviction. This makes for a difficult situation for Ben-Ari, who was disqualified because of accusations of racist incitement.
Nevertheless, Ben-Ari’s statements will be thoroughly examined before opening an investigation and it will not be easy to convict him for his statements, according to the legal source.
This is the first time that the court has disqualified a single candidate. At the same time, the court approved the candidacy of the Ra’am-Balad and Hadash-Ta’al lists and of Ofer Kasif and Itamar Ben Gvir.
After the disqualification, Otzma Yehudit demanded that Baruch Marzel be appointed as a minister in the upcoming government as compensation.
