Union of Right Parties member Itamar Ben-Gvir launched an attack against Blue and White candidate Meirav Cohen on Sunday by appealing to Knesset Election Committee Chairman Hanan Meltzer for her to return money raised through a crowdfunding campaign she initiated.Ben-Gvir's appeal claimed that the money that was raised by donors through crowdfunding should be returned because of a libel suit that was filed against Cohen. The crowdfunding campaign, as stated, was used to finance her legal expenses, Ben-Gvir claimed.
Ben-Gvir writes in his letter that the law prohibits receiving donations from the public for a campaign during the election period, noting that "the donations in question are not direct donations for funding the candidate's run for the Knesset, but the media exposure that Mrs. Cohen received following this campaign, could very well be considered election related".
"I am sorry that the candidate of the extreme left party, supported by Arab parties that support terrorism, is scorning the law and during an election period is trying to spin the media on the public's back through a mass funding campaign," Ben-Gvir commented. "I hope that Judge Meltzer will accede to my request and instruct Mrs. Cohen to return the funds to their donors."
