Torah study and military service do not contradict each other, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a visit to the haredi Border Police combat company Avenat on Thursday.

Netanyahu was accompanied by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Police Commissioner Danny Levy, and Border Guard Commander Barik Yitzhak.

"We are in a process of change. It is very important to show the great contribution of all parts of society, but as far as I am concerned, you are pioneers," Netanyahu said."

"And it is important to understand - there is no contradiction between Torah and service," he added.

"We are making sure to eliminate this contradiction, and you are actually making sure to do it. You are here performing a sacred commandment - and the commandment is to ensure the perpetuity of Israel," Netanyahu concluded.

Debate for haredi draft law continues

MK Boaz Bismuth, the newly appointed chairman of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, held his first meeting discussing the haredi draft law on Tuesday.

“On one thing we agree: we want a draft law,” he said. “I will search for what connects us all,” he added.
Additionally, several haredi men were seen stealing and tearing IDF conscription letters from a postal worker in Jerusalem's Bukharim neighborhood on Tuesday, according to Israel Police.

Haredi communities have held multiple protests over the draft law, leading to multiple road closures and arrests of draft dodgers.
