A five-year-old bystander was killed during a traffic accident involving three vehicles on Sunday, according to reports by Magen David Adom.

According to MDA paramedics, the child was hit by a car, which later caused an accident between two other vehicles. "When we arrived, there was a lot of commotion at the scene, and the child was lying unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, and suffering from a serious head injury," said the paramedics.

Additional reports pointed out that there were four other victims at the scene, two injured in moderate condition with injuries to the abdomen and limbs, and two injured in light condition.

Israel Police announced that it had opened an investigation into the matter and was collecting findings and testimony.

One classroom lost per year due to car accidents

According to statistics by Or Yarok (Green Light), a non-profit organization that pushes for stricter regulations in terms of traffic safety, 34 children were killed in traffic accidents in 2025.

"It's dangerous to be a child in Israel in 2026," said attorney Yaniv Yaakov, CEO of Or Yarok. "An entire classroom is erased from our lives every year," he added.

Or Yarok's statistics also mentioned that 43 people have been killed by car accidents in the first two months of 2026, calling the situation a "road carnage."

Beterem, another organization focused on child safety, said that 252 children and teenagers were killed in road accidents over the last five years, seven of them in 2026.

Beterem CEO Orly Silbinger said, "Road accidents are the leading cause of death among children and teenagers; every child who is killed is a whole world in itself."

"I appeal to parents and the driving public in Israel, do not say 'it won't happen to me'! When you are around roads and vehicles, you must maintain close supervision and a safe distance from your child," she insisted.

"When driving, follow the instructions and laws, concentrate solely on driving and not on anything that could distract you, while paying special attention to the children on the road," Silbinger added.
