An attorney and former military prosecutor is suspected of serious sexual offenses, including rape and soliciting prostitution, with police alleging he exploited female soldiers and young women by demanding sexual favors in exchange for legal assistance, authorities said on Thursday.

Police say Attorney Idan Dvir may have victimized more than 50 women in the case, which emerged from a months-long covert investigation launched after complaints by two soldiers.

Investigators believe the number of alleged victims could rise following the publication of the suspect’s identity, as they continue examining digital evidence and testimonies.

"My client denies all suspicions," Attorney Ofir Strashnov, who represents Dvir, told Walla. "He is fully cooperating with the investigators, and we are confident that the suspicions will be refuted soon."

Dvir has claimed that the claims against him are a misinterpretation of his interactions and denies engaging in any act of force or violence.

Police point to pattern of sexual misconduct

Nevertheless, police point to what they describe as a pattern of conduct in which Dvir allegedly exploited the power imbalance between himself and those in need of his help.

Further, he faces charges of numerous sexual offences, and investigators say some of which come from interactions conducted digitally. They are conducting an examination of correspondence and materials collected, including from a cellphone seized during a search of his home.

Police are set to ask the court to extend Dvir's detention on Friday.
