The IDF's Military Prosecution on Monday filed an indictment against a lieutenant who attempted to smuggle goods from Israel into the Gaza Strip.

The officer, who holds the position of a deputy company commander, was charged with several offenses, including aiding the enemy, taking a bribe, and smuggling goods under aggravated circumstances, among others.

The Military Police's Special Investigations Unit opened an investigation, which culminated in an indictment, the IDF said.

In September 2025, the defendant, using their posting as an officer at the Kerem Shalom Crossing, along with others, planned to smuggle a truck containing prohibited goods into the Gaza Strip, the indictment says.

The defendant planned to exploit their military role, familiarity with border crossing procedures, and their operational powers in order to allow the truck into the Gaza Strip, in exchange for a payment of millions of shekels, as well as a division of profits to all involved, the indictment adds.

Officer used military influence to smuggle truck over crossing

On the evening of September 19, the truck was moved near the crossing when the officer arrived in a military vehicle, ordered the crossing opened, creating a false impression for the soldiers on site, and escorted the truck over the crossing.

The truck was carrying mobile phones, cigarettes, tobacco, silicone, solar panels, and electric bicycles, among other goods, the military noted.

Shortly after, those involved received approximately NIS 5 m. between them.

The military court ordered that the defendant be detained until at least April 29.
