Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot filed a police complaint over suspicions that blood samples were taken from patients without their informed consent as part of a research study in the hospital's cardiology department, the hospital said Sunday.

The complaint followed preliminary findings that raised concerns about possible misconduct during the study.

Hospital management also notified the Health Ministry of the suspicions and the immediate steps taken in response.

Medical services in the cardiology department are continuing as usual, the hospital said, adding that measures have been put in place to ensure continuity of care and patient safety.

Previous complaint involving cardiology department director

The latest complaint follows a separate complaint against Professor Kobi George, head of the cardiology department, concerning the alleged shortening of an internal medicine residency under his supervision.

According to the report, a committee was established after a resident doctor at the medical center alleged that residency records had been falsified to allow cardiology residents to bypass the required internal medicine training period while appearing to have completed it.

That complaint is also under review.
