The popular TV series The Good Wife , the story of what happens to a woman who supports her politician husband after a cheating scandal, has just ended its wonderful seven-year run. It has been one of the programs that glittered most brightly in television’s new golden age. The finale of this show (which was not yet available when this column went to press) was celebrated at the Museum of Modern Art in New York last week, and the whole cast turned out in their best designer clothes.
Where can you see the stars of The Good Wife next, so you don’t get withdrawal? Chris Noth, who has had a major role in three hit TV series (the others are Law & Order and Sex and the City ), will be seen next in the new indie movie Chronically Metropolitan, a coming-of-age comedy that co-stars Mary-Louise Parker of Weeds . Carrie Preston, who played the delightfully quirky but brilliant lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, will be joining Parker in another project, a TV miniseries When We Rise , about the birth of the gay rights movement. Alan Cumming, the Scottish actor who made the devious political operative Eli Gold one of the most memorable characters on The Good Wife , is slated to play Salvador Dali in an upcoming biopic.
Christine Baranski, the most glamorous lawyer in history, is still appearing on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory in the decidedly less glitzy role of Leonard’s judgmental mother. Matt Czuchry, the preppy and gorgeous young lawyer Cary Agos, will be reprising his role as Logan in the four new Gilmore Girls TV movies, which are due out this fall. Most of the cast of Gilmore Girls will be returning for these movies, including Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as Lorelai and Rory; Kelly Bishop as Lorelai’s mother; and Scott Patterson as Luke, Lorelai’s sometime love interest. Edward Herrmann, who played Lorelai’s father, passed away in 2014 and will be missed. Melissa McCarthy, the breakout star of the series, was too busy with her movie career to return.
Josh Charles, who played Alicia’s colleague and lover Will Gardner on The Good Wife , has a role in Israeli director Joseph Cedar’s Oppenheimer Strategies . The movie, which stars Richard Gere as an American businessman who befriends an Israeli politician, will likely hit screens this summer. By the way, whenever Alicia sipped red wine – which was often – it was really Welch’s grape juice, Julianna Margulies told an interviewer last week.
Darren Star’s latest show, Younger , will be airing on Sundays, starting on May 22, at 9:05 p.m. on HOT 3 and HOT VOD. Starr created the series Sex and the City , as well as Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210 . Younger is about Liza (Sutton Foster), a 40-year-old divorced mother who has to go back into the job market.
She finds that it’s hard for her to get work in the publishing industry, which is now dominated by 20somethings. So after a younger man she meets in a bar thinks she is 26, she decides to lie about her age. She gets away with it and is hired to be the assistant to an arrogant publishing executive, played by Miriam Shor, who also had the role of the aggressive reporter Mandy Post in several episodes of The Good Wife . Debi Mazar, whom you might recognize as the aggressive publicity woman Shauna from Entourage , plays Maggie.
Hilary Duff, best known for playing Lizzie McGuire on the popular tween series, is her co-worker. The show is funny, although not as original as Sex and the City , and the characters aren’t as distinctive. Two culinary documentaries about world-famous chef Rene Redzepi are coming up on YES Docu. NOMA, My Perfect Storm , is a look at the life and work of Redzepi, chef and co-owner of NOMA in Copenhagen, voted best restaurant in the world four times.
It will be shown on YES Docu on May 22 at 10 p.m. and on YES VOD.
Ants on Shrimp , which will premiere on May 26 at 10 p.m. and on YES VOD, tells of how Redzepi relocated his restaurant to Tokyo, and the unique challenges that faced a European chef working in Asia.
