Staff-Sgt. Roei Sargosti from Nahal Haro'eh Farm in Ramat HaNegev was killed while fighting Hamas in northern Gaza.

"I spoke with him for the last time on Thursday,” his sister Omer shared. “On the first Saturday of the war, he was deployed from home to the Golan Heights. In the morning, they arrived in the south and witnessed firsthand the atrocities in the communities bordering Gaza. They then began their training for the mission.”

Omer described Roy as full of optimism and happiness, but she added that she could also perceive the hardships he had encountered during those initial days of combat.

Hard experiences

“I couldn't bring myself to ask him to take care of himself, fearing he might disregard it,” Omer recalled. “We tried delicately asking him about what he witnessed, but it was a wound we didn't want to reopen before the ground incursion."

Eran Doron, the head of the Ramat Negev Council, eulogized Sargosti as a "desert boy who became a hero of the Negev."
