The IDF and security guards thwarted two attempted terror attacks in the southern area of the West Bank on Friday, the military said.
A terrorist arrived at the entrance to Migdal Oz, throwing stones and approaching the security post armed with a knife Friday afternoon. The settlement's security guard shot and killed him before there were any injuries.
In an earlier incident, an IDF soldier shot a terrorist armed with a knife who attempted to carry out a stabbing attack near the Shim’a community.
The incident occurred near a major traffic artery where several IDF soldiers were stationed on guard duty, according to Israeli reports.
The terrorist approached the soldiers with a knife in his hand and was shot down after it was determined he intended to perpetrate a stabbing attack.
Two weeks ago, a similar situation happened at the Gush Etzion junction in the West Bank, when Shalev Zevuloni, 22, was killed in a combined shooting and stabbing attack.
Terrorism in the West Bank
The two Palestinians who carried out the attack were Palestinian Authority police officers Mahmoud Yusef Abed and Malek Ibrahim Salem. They recently returned to the West Bank after completing their studies in Qatar, according to reports from Palestinian media.
Eyewitnesses said that the terrorists arrived in a stolen car at the shopping center and stabbed Zevuloni, a security guard, outside the Rami Levi supermarket. The assailants then snatched the guard’s handgun and exchanged fire with a soldier and an armed civilian before being killed.
Last month, the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) uncovered an extensive Hamas terrorist network in Hebron that was planning to commit terror attacks imminently, the security organizations said in a statement on Sunday.
Over 60 terrorists organized into 10 separate terror cells were arrested by security forces. Most of the individuals who were apprehended were previously released convicts.
