Vandals defaced an outer wall of a synagogue in Petah Tikva with a swastika and the Nazi SS symbol. The markings were discovered on Tuesday by local residents who arrived at the Mikdash Moshe synagogue on Ahad Ha’am Street for morning prayers.Members of the synagogue filed a complaint with police regarding the incident. A police spokesman on Wednesday said an investigation was underway.“It is shocking to see in the morning swastikas sprayed on the old synagogue in the center of the city,” wrote city council member Rami Greenberg on a local Facebook group page. “The worshipers who arrived early in the morning to recite the Slichot [penitential prayers] of the month of Elul were amazed as the rest of us that in the State of Israel... in 2018, there are such expressions of antisemitism.“Of course, a complaint was filed with the police in the hope that it would be handled with all seriousness and speed,” he added. “The people of Israel went through the terrible Holocaust and established a glorious country, and this was a great victory against all those who wanted to destroy us. We will not allow antisemitism to raise its head in our city. We will continue to educate love of the nation and the homeland and tolerance between all parts of the people of Israel.”
