India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first-ever recipient of the Knesset Medal on Wednesday, after his speech at the Knesset.
This is a new medal presented by the Knesset, symbolizing a deep appreciation for the recipient's contributions to Israel and the Jewish people.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana was in charge of giving Modi the medal, while a crowd chanted his name as he left the podium.
Modi's speech included condemnations of the October 7 massacre, support for Israel's firm stance against terrorism, and the role of Israel as a powerhouse in innovation.

"We feel your pain. India stands with Israel firmly, with full conviction in this moment and beyond. Nothing justifies error,” Modi said in condemnation of the October 7 massacre.
He also explained that the fight against terrorism requires "sustained and coordinated global action," adding that "India supports all efforts that contribute to regional peace and stability."
"Israel is a powerhouse of innovation and technological leadership," a combination that he said creates "a natural basis for a future-oriented partnership," he noted, and pointed out that both Israel and India are ancient civilizations."
“Our partnership is grounded in shared experience," he said.
Finally, he announced that India and Israel had established a parliamentary transit group to strengthen bilateral relations and that the two countries had committed to expanding trade and investment. Modi added that the bilateral investment treaty signed last year created "certainty and clear prospects" for businesses in both countries.
“Am Yisrael Chai,” the Indian prime minister concluded as the plenum audience chanted “Modi,” and gave him a standing ovation.
