Rivlin confident that police will emerge stronger from organizational turmoil

In the course of a visit to Police Headquarters on Tuesday, President Reuven Rivlin voiced his confidence that the police force would emerge from its current organizational turmoil stronger, rather than weaker.At a meeting with the top brass of the boys in blue, Rivlin was thoroughly briefed on the procedures of the different departments and was told that in recent months the police have invested the bulk of their human resources in meeting the internal security challenges of the state.Rivlin was informed of the difficulties involved in finding a balance between responding to incidents of political violence and criminal violence, and safeguarding freedom of expression and legitimate protests on the other.In his response, Rivlin, who has a professional understanding of the law, stated that the task of the police is to draw the red lines between freedom of expression and incitement; and violence and protest.Furthermore, the police have been assigned the formidable responsibility for public and national safety, which is a supreme moral duty, said Rivlin who praised the leadership of outgoing Police Inspector General Yohanan Danino.Rivlin was also introduced to the state-of-the-art technologies now being used in day-to-day police work.
