Steinitz visits Egypt, first Israeli minister since Arab Spring

Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz visited Egypt on Monday, the first formal visit by any Israeli minister to Egypt since the 2011 Arab Spring.Steinitz met with the Egyptian Energy Minister, Tarek El Molla, and participated in the first Ministerial meeting for the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.In their meeting, the ministers discussed increasing the cooperation between Israel and Egypt regarding energy and the exportation of gas from Israel and Egypt to Europe.Steinitz was invited to visit Egypt again in May for the announcement of the establishment of the Mediterranean Natural Gas Organization, featuring Israel, Egypt, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and the European Union Energy Commission."I would like to thank the Egyptian Energy Minister for the invitation," Steinitz said. "This is the biggest economical cooperation between Israel and Egypt since the signing the peace treaty."
