Some 53 parliamentarians from seven parties on Thursday petitioned the government to support Jewish settlement in Hebron. They asked the government to recognize the right of the Jews to buy property in that city. They also called on the government to recognize Jewish property rights to buildings and lands bought by Jews prior to the destruction of Hebron's Jewish community in 1929.
In the petition, the MKs stated that in Hebron, Jewish settlement is anchored both by ancient historic privilege and also by government decisions and recent international agreements.
Among those who signed were all members of the Likud and the National Union-National Religious Party as well as eights members from Kadima and seven from Yisrael Beiteinu. In addition all MKs except the ministers signed from Shas, GIL Pensioners, Yahadut HaTorah.
